Bamboo Rice-Thai Craft and Souvenir 7#



Bamboo Rice or Glutinous rice roasted in bamboo joints(Khao Lam) is a food which in the old days the people in Asia used bamboo to cook rice. Rice will be a cylindrical shape when finish and will connect with bamboo skin makes a beautiful shape. But, today Thailand is the popular eating desserts.  

The Mixture
  
   1. Sticky rice
   2. Coconut milk
   3. Salt
   4. Sugar
   5. back bean or grain
   6. Bamboo tubes
   7. Banana leaf for close







Materials indispensable is bamboo tube for cooking bamboo rice but some place may used bamboo tube different types.  

How to make?
1. Washed the sticky rice and soak about 5 minutes then were rinsed black beans and boiled until tender.
2. Stir sticky rice, coconut milk, water, sugar and salt in a large pan over medium heat. Stir until all coconut milk is absorbed. Stir in black beans to mix. 
3. Fill in the prepared bamboo tube that it fits.  
4. Bring coconut milk to cooked the fill into bamboo amount of 1/4 of the height the bamboo tube to the rice and fold banana leaves or pandan leaves into a square and stuff them to cover the top part of the tubes.
5. Roast the bamboo on a charcoal stove. Turn them around evenly until the bamboo becomes brown (about 35-40 minutes)
Special about the Bamboo Rice
The bamboo Rice will have smell of nature from bamboo, grain, coconut milk, etc.
Where to buy Bamboo Rice?
     At the Nongmon Market, Chonburi which not far from the Bankok in Thailand.
     Nongmon Market not far from Ban Saen beach about one kilometer only. The people known name "Nongmon Market" but the people in community called "Saen Suk Market" as the growth in trade in the province of Chonburi. Both sides of the street filled with shops. Here you will get everything you need.   
Cultural Significant
Previously, Khao Lam Nongmon (Bamboo rice) will famous travelers have known that, Originally, the people in Nongmon community are farmers. When the end of agriculture will made Bamboo rice to the dessert. By bring sticky rice exchange with sugar and coconut to another village and bamboo bring from forest. When has annual festival Shrine Nongmon will have trade. The street seller will sell Bamboo rice with sugarcane and roasted nut. In the period will a few until when have Sukhumvit road (the old one) so the people then known Bamboo Nongmon and begin have shops on the side Sukhumvit road.

3. Calcium helps to replenish of the body.
4. Flour in sticky rice helps the body active.
5. Energy in the form of fat.   

Eating Bamboo Rice
Initially, using knife or hammer pound on bamboo tube for bamboo cloven or  set aside until it cools down some. Then peel the outside skin of the bamboo to make it thinner and easier to crack and strip off when ready to eat.
  

     However, the Khao Lam or Bamboo rice will not popular to teenage in Thailand but  the people in Thailand still consume Bamboo rice and still conserve always. For the traveler at Ban Saen, Chonburi in Thailand you must go to at "Nongmon Market" and try to buy Bamboo rice. You will known the Bamboo rice, It is very delicious.
